The challenge
Grimshaw Architects possesses iconic global assets and a 45-year legacy of pioneering design. The global board sought to transition the firm's web platform into an active business development gateway focused on client attraction and conversion. The firm needed a unified strategy to authentically communicate its “local with access to global” studio model, whilst ensuring its “Beauty Through Ingenuity” philosophy was effectively translated across all digital touchpoints. The primary goal was bridging the gap between strategic intelligence and platform execution.
The approach
We conducted a comprehensive digital diagnostic across the global studios to establish firm content foundations and secure board alignment on a new strategic direction. Following this, we acted as the Lead Strategic Partner to translate the board's decisions into actionable steps. We ran design direction workshops and developed rigorous RFP briefs to lead the vendor research and selection process for both creative and technical partners.
The strategy focused on a federated content model that balances regional autonomy with global brand consistency. We also established a framework that prioritises curated excellence over comprehensive documentation, ensuring innovation is showcased through human-centred storytelling and collaborative processes.
The outcome
Having successfully completed the strategic diagnostic and the subsequent vendor sourcing and briefing phase, the project is now actively in its third phase of delivery. We are currently providing ongoing strategic oversight alongside the selected creative and technical partners to ensure the build aligns perfectly with the established editorial vision. The resulting platform is designed to serve as a powerful business tool that demonstrates the firm's capabilities and commitment to sustainable architecture.
